American Medley

All songs are performed and recorded by Joe Dassin
during his concert at Olympia, in 1974

Orchestra conductor: Claude Gagnasso

1. Boogie-Woogie Bugle Boy

He was a famous trumpet man from old Chicago way
He had a boogie style that no one else could play
He was the top man at his craft
But then his number came up and he was gone with the draft
He's in the army now blowin' reveillé
He's the boogie-woogie bugle boy of Company B

They made him blow a bugle for his Uncle Sam
It really brought him down because he couldn't jam
The Captain seemed to understand
Because the next day the Cap' went out and drafted a band
And now the company jumps when he plays reveille
He's the boogie-woogie bugle boy of Company B

Written by Raye and H.Prince

2. Piano Roll Blues

I wanna hear it again, I wanna hear it again
The old piano roll blues

We're sitting at an upright, my sweetie and me
Pushin' on the pedals, makin' sweet harmony
When we hear rinkity tink and we hear plinkity plink
We cuddle closer it seems
And while we kiss, kiss, kiss away all our cares
The player's piano playin' razzamatazz

I wanna hear it again, I wanna hear it again
The old piano roll blues

Written by Cy Cohen
(p)1974, D.R.

3. Lullaby of Broadway

Come on along and listen to
The lullaby of Broadway
The hip-hooray and ballyhoo
The lullaby of Broadway

The rumble of the subway train
The rattle of the taxis
The ------ goes to entertain
At Angelo's and Maxi's

When a Broadway baby says "Good night"
It's early in the morning
Manhattan babies get sleep tight
Until the dawn

Good night baby
Good night, the milkman's on his way
Sleep tight baby
Sleep tight, let's call it a day

Written by H.Warren
(p)1974, Chappell

4. Don't Sit Under the Apple Tree

Don't sit under the apple tree with anyone else but me
Anyone else but me, anyone else but me, no, no, no
Don't sit under the apple tree with anyone else but me
'Til I come home to you

Don't go walkin' down Lovers' lane with anyone else but me
Anyone else but me, anyone else but me, no, no, no
Don't go walkin' down Lovers' lane with anyone else but me
'Til I come home to you

I just got word from a boy who heard from the boy next door to me
The girl he met just loves to pet and it fits you to a T
So, don't sit under the apple tree with anyone else but me
'Til I come home to you

Don't sit under the apple tree with anyone else but me
Anyone else but me, anyone else but me, nooo
Don't sit under the apple tree with anyone else but me
'Til I come swingin' home

So, don't sit under the apple tree with anyone else but me
'Til I come swingin', really swingin', I come swingin' home

Written by Stept, Tobias and Brown
(p)1974, France Melodie

5. Rum and Coca-Cola

If you ever go down Trinidad
They make you feel so very glad
Calypso sing and make up rhyme
Guarantee you one real good fine time

Drinkin' rum and Coca-Cola
Go down Point Cumana
Both mother and daughter
Workin' for the Yankee dollar

From Chicachicaree to Mona's Isle
The native girls all dance and smile
Help soldier celebrate his leave
And make every day like New Year's Eve

Drinkin' rum and Coca-Cola
Go down Point Cumana
Both mother and daughter
Workin' for the Yankee dollar

Drinkin' rum and Coca-Cola
Coca-Cola, rum and Coca-Cola
Coca-Cola, rum and Coca-Cola
Coca-Cola, rum and Coca-Cola
Coca-Cola, rum and Coca-Cola
Coca-Cola, rum and Coca-Cola
Hey! [In the Mood]

6. In the Mood

Jump in with my gal, sit right here in the city
Don't you know that it was grand, really grand?
And then she came along, then she came along, boy
And sang a groovy song, sang a song and I asked:

"Sister Whatchacall'um, whatcha doin' tonight?
I hope you're in the mood because I'm feelin' just right
How about a corner with a table for two
Where the music's mellow for some gay rendezvous
There's no chance romancin' with a blue attitude
D'you know you got to do some dancin' to get in the mood!

"Sister Whatchacall'um, I'm indebted to you
Ye see, it goes to show what good influence can do
I never felt so happy or so fully alive
We got a jam a-jumpin' it's a powerful jive
Swingin' you is givin' me a new attitude
My heart is full of rhythm and I'm in the mood!"

I'm in the mood (oh boy) be mine forever
In the mood (that boy) and leave me never
In the mood (oh joy) I'm gonna crazy
You know it won't be long before you're in the mood!

So don't be rude, I love you madly
It's up to you, I'll take you gladly
Love is blind, my vision's hazy
It didn't take me long to say I'm in the mood!

Do ba do ba do ba bop boo da da day
Badam da da-n do da-n do day
Say who's that gal with the beautiful eyes
'N' look close at those lips, I'd try 'em for size
Hey, swing with me
What a wing it'd be
May I intrude?
It's time to dance and I'm in the mood!

Oh hold me darling, let's dance
What a dreamy romance
It's a quarter to three
There's a mess o'that moon
Let's share it with me
You know I think it's rude
To keep me this way when I'm in the mood!
I'm in the mood, in the groove
In the mood, hey, hey, hey

Hey! Man, oh man, wow!
Like you really got me lookin'
Oh, and you really got me cookin', oh!

My heart went flip, my brain went skip
I said c'mon, c'mon, c'mon, c'mon, c'mon, c'mon
I'm hot now (oh boy) I love you madly
Right now (oh boy) I'll take you gladly
Tight now (oh boy) I'll be in and now I'm really in the mood, boy!

Ho, right now!
Takin' me right now!
Why don't we go somewhere and smooch, boy?

It's got to be right now!
It's gotta be right now!
It's got to be right now!
I'm only sayin' that it didn't take me long
Didn't take me long, didn't take me long to say I'm in the mood
Your flat foot floozy wants a good boy!
